Terracotta pedestal

Restoration of a Terracotta pedestal by Mary Seton Watts (1849-1938) given to Alfred Lord Tennyson 1907-1908.

Work involved dismantling and transporting from site, removal of cement core, and structural repair to terracotta sections using stainless steel cramps and dowels. Pointing and small repairs were carried out in lime mortar, several new terracotta elements were commissioned and re-installed using hydraulic lime mortar with a  central stainless steel fixing.

The work was carried out for an Exhibition: ‘Tennyson at Farringford’ Isle of Wight, August 2009 curated by Veronica Franklin Gould.
